Amazing 4 Days Mount Muhavura Hiking Tour

This 4 Days Mount Muhavura Hiking Tour, takes you to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, where you can hike Mount Muhavura, the third-highest of the 8 Virunga mountains, which is the easiest to climb in a single day. Climbing this extinct volcanic mountain is a challenging endeavor; it lies on the border of Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Rwanda, with one park located in Uganda and the other in Rwanda. Mount Muhavura is 4127 meters above sea level.

Mount Muhavura, the most popular of the eight Virunga mountains, rewards hikers with magical views of the other Virunga mountains and breathtaking views of the twin lakes, Ruhondo and Burera, from its peak. The other intriguing thing about Muhavura is that the vegetation is drier than in other parts of the park, and its crater lake is next to its summit.

Mgahinga National Park is the smallest park in Uganda, but despite that, it is full of life and adventures. This 4-day safari has other activities like cultural encounters, visiting Lake Bunyonyi, and engaging in its countless activities.

Commence your journey to western Uganda via the Masaka-Mbarara Highway. The first stop will be in Masaka to stretch your legs, watch local people do their day-to-day activities, and embark on the drive. The second stop will be in Mbarara, known as the land of milk, where you will have a lunch break and relax. En route to your pre-booked accommodation, you will have dinner and spend the night.

Accommodation Option: Mgahinga Rest Camp. Meal Plan: Lunch and Dinner.

Day 2: Muhavura Climbing

On day 2 of  4 Days Mount Muhavura Hiking Tour, this is the safari’s anticipated day. You will be required to wake up earlier than usual for breakfast, carry your packed lunch, meet with your driver, and transfer to the Ntebeko Visitors Center for a pre-hiking briefing on what to expect during the hike, as well as more information about the mountain, its formation, etc. In order to engage in this activity, one is required to be mentally and physically stable; a little bit of stubbornness may be helpful too. An armed park ranger, experienced and well-versed in the trails to use, will lead your hike to the trailhead at the foothills of the mountain after a briefing. The hike takes a total of 8 hours, both to and from the summit. You will have stopovers in huts before reaching the summit. Be the first to reach the summit; some hikers stop at the first stop/hut at 3116 m, while others stop at the second hut at 3855 m. The hike is challenging; the peak’s cold and misty weather can make you feel hot and entice you to swim in the crater lake. After 8 hours of hiking, return to the lodge, pack your belongings, and transfer to Paradise Eco Camp for dinner and a night’s stay.

Accommodation Option: Paradise Eco Camp. Meal Plan: breakfast, packed lunch, dinner.

Day 3: Lake Bunyonyi

This day is full of lively activities. After a relaxed breakfast, your driver will take you to Lake Bunyonyi. The lake is debatably the second-deepest freshwater lake in Africa; its waters are crocodile and bilharzia-free, meaning they are safe for swimming. The lake has 29 islands waiting for you to explore during the boat cruise. Locals named the lake Bunyonyi after the numerous small birds known as Bunyonyi. Other activities at the lake include bird watching, cycling, swimming, sun bathing, among other water activities, horseback riding, and cultural tours in the neighboring community guided by those who know the local people best. Time for lunch will be provided. Later, return to the lodge for dinner and a night’s stay.

Accommodation Option: Paradise Eco Camp. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

Day 4: transfer back to Kampala

After packing your belongings and transferring back to Kampala, you will have a stopover for lunch on the final day of your trip. On arrival in Kampala, your driver will either drop you off at a hotel or residence in Kampala or Entebbe. end of  4 Days Mount Muhavura Hiking Tour
