Day 1: Journey to the Primate Capital
Your 3-day chimpanzee safari in Kibale kicks off with a scenic drive via the Fort Portal–Mubende route. Optional sightseeing includes the majestic Amabere Caves, Omukama’s Palace, and the crater lakes near Fort Portal.
On arrival, enjoy a guided nature walk through Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary, one of Uganda’s top birding destinations featuring species like the Papyrus Gonolek, Great Blue Turaco, and Kingfishers, as well as primates like the L’Hoest’s monkey and rare Sitatunga antelope.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Birding Adventure
Fuel up for a full day of trekking after breakfast. With permits in hand, you’ll join a park ranger and begin the trek to locate one of three habituated chimpanzee families in Kibale. This experience is easier and more rewarding than other trekking destinations like Budongo Forest in Murchison Falls National Park.
Tracking lasts 2–4 hours. Once located, enjoy a full hour observing the chimps as they forage, groom, and swing from trees.
In the afternoon, join a guided birdwatching tour through the boardwalk trail to spot species unique to Uganda’s Albertine Rift, ideal for birding enthusiasts seeking a richer wildlife experience.
