Tour Itinerary: Day 1 – Shoebill Watching at Mabamba Swamp

Morning:
After breakfast, our company representative will pick you up from your location in Kampala or Entebbe. You are advised to carry a packed lunch. Your guide will brief you on the safari before you embark on a scenic one-hour drive to Mabamba Bay.

Bird species can be spotted along the way in fields, gardens, and bushlands. A short stopover for photography or observation can be arranged upon request.

At Mabamba Bay:
On arrival, a local boatman and site guide will be waiting for you. You’ll board a wooden canoe to begin your birdwatching adventure.

The primary goal is to locate the Shoebill Stork, known for its shoe-shaped beak and its still hunting posture while waiting for fish. Mornings offer the best sightings, as the Shoebill is most active while hunting lungfish for breakfast.

Afternoon:
After encountering the Shoebill, enjoy a relaxed birdwatching experience spotting other species across the swamp’s channels. Later, meet your driver and head back to Kampala or Entebbe.
