Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve
Depart Nairobi early in the morning and drive through the Great Rift Valley, enjoying scenic viewpoints along the way. The descent into the valley offers breathtaking views of the escarpment, with Lake Naivasha and the distant volcanic peaks visible on clear days. Arrive at the Masai Mara in time for lunch at your lodge or camp, with the vast savannah stretching before you.
In the afternoon, head out for your first game drive, focusing on migration corridors and predator zones. The Masai Mara is Kenya’s most famous wildlife reserve, home to the Big Five and the stage for the Great Migration. Between July and October, over 1.5 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebras gather in the reserve, creating one of nature’s greatest spectacles. Your guide will position you at strategic points to witness the drama unfolding. Dinner and overnight at the camp.
Meal Plan: Lunch & Dinner
Day 2: Masai Mara Migration Safari
Spend the full day tracking wildebeest and zebra herds as they move across the plains. Your guide will adjust routes based on current wildlife activity, often positioning you near the Mara River, where the herds gather before making their dramatic crossings. The river is home to large Nile crocodiles, and the banks are patrolled by lions and cheetahs drawn to the abundance of prey. A picnic lunch inside the reserve allows uninterrupted wildlife viewing. The experience of watching thousands of animals move in unison, their hooves thundering across the savannah, is unforgettable. In the evening, return to the camp for dinner and rest.

Day 3: Masai Mara Wildlife Exploration
Continue with extensive game drives, exploring different regions of the reserve. This day allows flexibility for photography, predator tracking, and landscape viewing. The Mara is famous for its high density of big cats, lions, leopards, and cheetahs are regularly spotted. Other wildlife includes elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, and numerous antelope species.
Your guide may take you to the Talek River area, known for its leopard sightings, or the plains near the Mara Triangle, where the herds often concentrate. Optional activities include a visit to a Maasai village to learn about traditional customs and witness jumping dances, or a hot air balloon safari at sunrise (both at extra cost). Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
