Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Lake Nakuru National Park

Depart Nairobi in the morning and drive northwest toward the Great Rift Valley. The journey takes approximately 3 hours, offering stunning views of the escarpment and the valley floor below. Arrive at Lake Nakuru National Park in time for lunch at your lodge.

In the afternoon, head out for a game drive across the park’s diverse landscapes. Lake Nakuru is famous for its flamingo populations, which often gather in their thousands along the soda-rich waters, painting the shoreline pink. The park is also a rhino sanctuary, home to both black and white rhinos, making it one of the best places in Kenya to see these endangered creatures. Other wildlife includes Rothschild’s giraffes, waterbucks, buffaloes, zebras, and lions. The park’s acacia woodlands are home to leopards, and the lakeshore attracts a variety of waterbirds. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Meal Plan: Lunch & Dinner

Day 2: Lake Nakuru to Masai Mara National Reserve

Wake early for a final morning game drive in Lake Nakuru. The early morning light offers excellent photographic opportunities, and the wildlife is most active during the cooler hours. Return to the lodge for breakfast and check out. Depart Lake Nakuru and drive southwest to the Masai Mara National Reserve. The journey takes approximately 5 to 6 hours, passing through the Great Rift Valley and Kenya’s fertile highlands, with the town of Narok marking the gateway to the reserve. Arrive in the late afternoon and head out for an introductory game drive before dinner. The Masai Mara is Kenya’s most famous wildlife reserve, home to the Big Five and the stage for the Great Migration (seasonal). Return to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3–4: Masai Mara National Reserve

Spend two full days exploring the Masai Mara with morning and afternoon game drives. The Mara is famous for its high density of big cats, lions, leopards, and cheetahs are regularly spotted. Other wildlife includes elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, and numerous antelope species.

Your guide will adjust routes based on wildlife movements and recent sightings. Between July and October, the Mara River becomes the stage for one of nature’s greatest spectacles: the dramatic crossings of wildebeest and zebras. Your guide will position you at strategic points to witness this event, if the timing aligns. Picnic lunches inside the reserve allow uninterrupted wildlife viewing. Optional activities include a visit to a Maasai village to learn about traditional customs and witness jumping dances, or a hot air balloon safari at sunrise (both at extra cost).
