Day 1: Kigali → Volcanoes National Park
Upon arrival in Kigali, you are met by your professional safari guide and begin a scenic drive north to Volcanoes National Park. Along the way, enjoy rolling hills, terraced farmland, and picturesque villages that define Rwanda’s countryside.
If time allows, a brief Kigali city orientation may be included before continuing to Musanze. Arrival at your lodge is followed by lunch and an afternoon at leisure, with optional village walks or relaxation overlooking the Virunga volcanoes.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking or Nature Walk Experience
After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing. Guests may choose gorilla trekking (permit required) or opt for a guided nature walk through the park’s foothills and surrounding communities.
Gorilla trekking involves hiking through bamboo forests and montane vegetation in search of a habituated gorilla family, spending a magical hour observing them in their natural habitat.
Non-trekking guests enjoy gentle walks, birdlife, scenic viewpoints, and cultural interactions with local communities. Return to the lodge in the afternoon for rest and dinner.
Day 3: Volcano Landscapes, Crater Lakes & Culture
Today focuses on the scenic and cultural side of the region. After breakfast, explore nearby crater lakes, volcanic foothills, and lush farmlands with a local guide. Optional activities include a visit to the Dian Fossey legacy sites (outside trekking zones), local markets, or cultural villages showcasing traditional Rwandan life.
The afternoon is relaxed, perfect for photography, reflection, or enjoying lodge amenities with dramatic mountain views.
Day 4: Volcanoes National Park → Kigali
After breakfast, depart for Kigali with stops for scenic viewpoints and local craft shopping. Upon arrival in the city, you are transferred to the airport or your hotel, marking the end of your Rwanda Volcanoes experience.
