Detailed Travel Plan (In Depth)
Day 1: Kigali – Akagera National Park
Depart Kigali in the morning and drive east to Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s only savannah reserve. Enjoy scenic views of lakes, wetlands, and rolling plains. Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive introducing you to giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and elephants. Dinner and overnight inside the park.
Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive in Akagera
Spend the entire day exploring Akagera’s diverse habitats, including open savannah, woodland, and lake shores. Morning and afternoon game drives increase your chances of spotting lions, leopards, rhinos, buffaloes, and elephants. Break for lunch at the lodge or picnic within the park.
Day 3: Big Five Tracking Safari
Today focuses on predator and Big Five tracking with an experienced guide. Travel deeper into remote areas of the park, where wildlife sightings are less disturbed. Learn about conservation efforts that have successfully restored Akagera’s ecosystem.
Day 4: Boat Safari on Lake Ihema
After breakfast, enjoy a relaxing boat safari on Lake Ihema. This water-based experience offers close views of hippos, crocodiles, and a wide variety of bird species. Later, enjoy a short afternoon game drive or relax at the lodge.
Day 5: Akagera – Return to Kigali
Enjoy a final early morning game drive before breakfast. After checkout, drive back to Kigali for drop-off at the airport or hotel.
