Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi – Lake Nakuru National Park
Your adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from your Nairobi hotel, followed by a scenic drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, crossing the equator into the Great Rift Valley. Lake Nakuru is renowned worldwide for its flamingos – at times there may be almost 2 million in residence, forming a stunning deep pink band around the lakeshore. The park is also a rhino sanctuary, harbouring a population of over 40 black and over 60 white rhinos. Arrive in time for lunch, then head out for an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight.
Meals: Lunch, Dinner, Drinking water
Day 2: Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast, depart for the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve. The drive takes approximately 5-6 hours through the Great Rift Valley’s dramatic landscapes. The Masai Mara holds on as one of the few places left on earth where wildlife still lives comparatively undisturbed, in the numbers that once roamed the plains and forests of Africa. As the northern tip of the vast Serengeti ecosystem, the Mara hosts the spectacular seasonal migration of many thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and attendant predators. Arrive in time for lunch, then head out for an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight.
Meals: All meals included, Drinking water
Days 3–4: Full Days in Masai Mara National Reserve
Spend two full days exploring the Masai Mara on morning and afternoon game drives. The reserve is well known for its black-maned lions, as well as its abundant resident wildlife. It’s one of the few places where it’s possible to see the Big Five during a morning’s game drive. Many of the cheetahs are so tame they seek shelter from the hot sun under vehicles. For bird enthusiasts, almost 500 species have been recorded. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the wilderness, and consider an optional hot-air balloon safari or Maasai village visit. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.
Meals: All meals included, Drinking water
Day 5: Masai Mara – Serengeti National Park (via Isebania Border)
After breakfast, depart the Masai Mara and drive to the Isebania border, crossing into Tanzania. Your Tanzanian driver-guide will meet you after immigration. Continue into the legendary Serengeti National Park, enjoying game viewing en route. The Serengeti means “endless plains” in Kiswahili and is home to more than 2 million large animals, including more than a million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of plains zebras, Thomson’s gazelles, and large predators including lions, cheetahs, and hyenas. Arrive at your camp in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Meals: All meals included, Drinking water
Days 6–7: Full Days in Serengeti National Park
Spend two full days exploring the Serengeti on morning and afternoon game drives. The park is home to the Great Migration and offers spectacular game viewing. Look out for lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and numerous bird species. You have the possibility to visit Olduvai Gorge, the archaeological site where the Leakey family discovered early hominid remains, or enjoy a hot air balloon flight (additional cost). Return to camp for dinner and overnight.
Meals: All meals included, Drinking water
Day 8: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Start your day with an early morning game drive to spot animals when they are most active and to witness a spectacular sunrise. Return to camp for brunch, then transfer to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. With walls 2,000 feet high and a crater floor that spreads for 102 square miles, the crater is a virtual Noah’s Ark, inhabited by almost every species of wildlife indigenous to East Africa, including the rare black rhino. The crater has the greatest concentration of wildlife on the planet. Enjoy an optional afternoon walking safari in the Ngorongoro Highlands. Dinner and overnight.
Meals: All meals included, Drinking water
Day 9: Ngorongoro Crater – Lake Manyara National Park
Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a full day of wildlife viewing in one of the most incredible places on earth. The crater floor is home to large bull elephants with extremely large tusks, due to the rich mineral content of the volcanic soil. Enjoy a picnic lunch near Hippo Lake, then continue wildlife viewing in the afternoon. Ascend the crater and transfer to Lake Manyara for your overnight stay. There is the possibility to visit Oldonyo Sambu Maasai Village en route. Dinner and overnight.
Meals: All meals included, Drinking water
Day 10: Lake Manyara – Zanzibar
After breakfast, enjoy a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. This enchanting park is noted for its beauty and incredibly lush acacia forest, home to troops of baboons and blue monkeys. The park is famous for its tree-climbing lions and the flamingos on the lakeshore, along with large numbers of buffalo, giraffes, and elephants. In the afternoon, transfer to the airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your beach resort for three days of relaxation.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Drinking water
Days 11–12: Zanzibar – Beach Relaxation
Enjoy two full days of relaxation on Zanzibar’s pristine white-sand beaches with turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Optional activities include a day tour of Stone Town (UNESCO World Heritage Site), a spice tour to explore the island’s famous spice plantations, a visit to Prison Island to see giant tortoises, or a Jozani Forest tour to see the endemic Zanzibar red colobus monkeys.
