Overview

The Mount Sabinyo Hike is one of East Africa’s most rewarding volcano hikes, offering adventure lovers the opportunity to explore a unique crater and caldera at the summit. The mountain gets its name from its resemblance to an old man’s teeth, known as “Sabinyo” in the local Rwandese language. Situated at the crossroads of Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the mountain is shared by three national parks: Mgahinga Gorilla National Park (Uganda), Virunga National Park (Congo), and Volcanoes National Park (Rwanda). The region is part of the Virunga Massif, home to several volcanoes and endangered mountain gorillas, making this trek the perfect opportunity to combine a hike with a gorilla trek.
