Particularly well-known are the mountain gorillas of Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. Chimpanzees can be found in several locations, including Kibale National Park in Uganda and Nyungwe National Park in Rwanda.

Days 1–2: Ngamba Island in Entebbe, Uganda
Get to our accommodation after landing at Entebbe International Airport (EBB). The next day, visit the Chimpanzee Sanctuary on Ngamba Island, which was established as a home for rescued and orphaned chimps in partnership with the Jane Goodall Institute. Later, take a look around the Uganda Wildlife Education Center.

Day 3–4: National Park Kibale Forest

Trekking chimps in Kibale National Park

Travel to Kibale National Park by plane from Entebbe to Kasese, where you will stay at our lodge on a crater lake. Get to know Emily Otali, Kibale Chimpanzee Project Field Director, and discover the various conservation and educational initiatives that National Geographic funds. See chimps in the park and other primates including the rare l’Hoest’s monkey, red-tailed, blue, and black-and-white colobus monkeys in the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary.

Day 5–6: Queen Elizabeth National Park and Kibale Forest National Park
Track chimps the next morning. Proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you may have an afternoon wildlife cruise after going on a safari to see elephants, lions, and Ugandan kobs.

Day 7–8: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park 

Trekking with Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda and Uganda

Go to the Impenetrable Forest National Park in Bwindi. Explore the park’s jungles the next morning, where you can find almost half of the world’s surviving mountain gorillas. Get a close-up look at one of the planet’s most endangered species while sitting with these gentle giants.

Days 9–10: Volcanoes National Park(Rwanda)
Get inside your private villa with views of the surrounding lakes and volcanoes after crossing the border into Rwanda. Hear from specialists at the Karisoke Research Center of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund about ongoing conservation initiatives. The following day, go mountain gorilla hunting in Volcanoes National Park, where Dian Fossey spent eighteen years studying gorillas. Enjoy a traditional dance performance this evening.

Day 11: Volcanoes National Park/Kigali
